These are a few of my favorite things......
When I was 5 years old, I used to crawl through the hedge around our back yard and run across the street to visit the neighbor lady. I did it so often that I created a hole in the hedge. I remember after a while there was a metal something or another trying to block my way through. Ha! Like that was going to keep me from getting through that hedge.
I had lost my cousin and best friend, just before, to a heart condition that the doctors were unable to correct. Something that is very repairable now.
I headed over to Ms Betty's house almost every day I'm sure. When I think about it I can only imagine how frustrating that must have been to have a 5 year old walking into your house almost every day. I remember I used to play with these little animals made of glass or plastic that you could hang on the side of a glass and it looked like they were climbing up. So funny what you remember.
Ms Betty taught me how to crochet when I was 7. As you can see by my age, my mother was unsuccessful at keeping me from walking over there. I think I must have needed that attention and Ms Betty was always good about listening.
Once I learned to crochet I was given a large box of misc crochet stuff from my Aunt Cindy. It was given to her by her mother in law. Inside this box was an antique basket, a bunch of crocheted pieces that were very old, hand made lace and other little treasures. I still have a lot of it. I think that was the start of my love of vintage lace.
If you walk through my home, I have doilies all over the place. I have them on top of almost every piece of furniture. Very manly...I know. When you have a house full of guys, you do your best to find something girly to cover up all the guy stuff.
I love to shop thrift stores. It is my FAVORITE thing to do. I take recycling to a whole new level. I don't have a set of china, so I decided I would shop for mismatched white dishes. I now have a set that is soooo cool. On valentines day I set the table and let the kids each pick what plate they wanted to use. It was fun watching them pick. Justin is the child who, like me, who loves to find the favorite this and that. He has his favorite plate, cup, etc.
A few weeks ago I went thrift store shopping and found an incomplete set of silverware that was totally different than anything I've seen. It looked really old. Of course, I found it very cool and purchased it for the house. I had to laugh when I noticed they were the first ones to be used from the drawer.
Justin and I have our favorite spoons. We will go out of our way looking for that one favorite spoon. It's just doesn't taste as good without that favorite spoon. :)
I remembered having one odd fork when I was little. My brother used to LOOK for that fork when we ate. You did not want him to catch you using his special fork. We had those special glasses you weren't allowed to touch, that one ornament that was especially yours, that favorite pillow case. It's funny how memories are made with the simple things.
Taylor and Bruce Landon also have their favorites. It's funny when someone (my husband) uses one of their special glasses and Taylor or Bruce will go on a rampage to find the guilty party.
It goes on and on. It's really very amusing.
The other day Bruce Landon went around the house for over 30 minutes trying to find the person who took his rechargeable batteries from the charger. That boy was on a mission.
No one confessed. That was probably a good thing.
Hope everyone has an amazing and blessed day.
Hugs
