Fredericksburg

Yesterday I spent the day with my husband shopping in Fredericksburg, looking at all the new craft ideas, meeting people who are vendors for a living.  It doesn't look like the most glamorous job, but the people are so very nice.  The amount of work that goes into setting up the huge booths at the outdoor market, is amazing.  Being someone who has always been crafty since learning to crochet at 7 years old, I am always appreciative of the work that goes into the things that others make.  Nothing pays you for the time you put into it.  You are basically sharing something you created for a little above the cost.  Every time we make the trip, I try to support a vendor.  I used to go up once a year to buy a handmade purse from an elderly lady and her husband who sell them.  (Now we go whenever the large bottle of vanilla runs out) The husband would cut out everything and the wife would sew them.  That was how they made their living.  I loved the bags I bought from her and still have them to this day.  She and her husband are no longer there.  Now I make my own purses.
I purchased some handmade wire jewelry from a couple.  The husband makes everything and the wife displays them.  Very nice couple.

They had a few long horn next to the outdoor market that you could actually pet.  One kept trying to lick Bruce.

We ate at the brewery in town.

I am always amazed at the wealthy shops in town, that sell things at such a marked up price, no one could possibly afford them.  I found one of my favorite designers clothing at one shop and was shocked to see a piece of clothing for over $300.00.  It was fun.  I would never spend so much on clothing, but I still enjoy her designs.

The seed farm is wonderful.  They had a band playing 40's-50's music.  So much fun to listen to.  I could just hear my grandfather singing one of the songs.  They had a few exotic animals there just for fun.  Bruce and I were amazed at a tiny monkey who's head was the size of a ping pong ball or smaller.  So cute.

This little things was SOOOOO CUTE!!!!!

One of the best parts of the day was shopping in a store where you can taste all the different salsas and jellies.  Trying the strangest concoctions.

As we were leaving we walked past the market square where they had live german music playing and lots of barbecue.  We were laughing at the drummer, who seemed so bored with the even german rhythm he was required to play and would, on occasion, jazz it up a bit.  It was fun to listen to.
I picked a small pink rose from a bush covered in roses, and we headed home.
Glad no one saw me pick the rose cause I probably would have gotten in trouble.
It was a great day.
I'll have to make lots of cookies to get rid of the bottle of vanilla so we can go again soon.

:)
