If you think your house is a mess......
I'm feeling so much better now that I'm not on any bad medications. I'm eating healthy.
I just wish things weren't so overwhelming here. I accept the fact that keeping two and a half acres of land and a 100 year old home is not going to be perfectly done. I am fortunate I didn't get that super perfection gene from my mother's side of the family. The paint of the house is falling off because there was no paint left on it when we moved it here. When we painted it, the wood was damp from huge amounts of rain. It would have taken 6 months to dry out. Given the fact that we have never gone 6 months without rain, we went ahead and painted. But now it has this lovely crackle finish, and this not so lovely, "fall off the house" finish.
The house is all wood and we've had a few termites hit the damp wood and wood ants, so we already have damage that needs repair. Did I say it was a good thing I'm fairly easy going about my house?
Outside we have piles of wood, piles of tin, piles of logs, huge cactus plants and dead trees everywhere.
We have two cats indoors, one cat outdoors, one stray cat outdoors and two indoor dogs. Everybody sheds....A LOT!!! So there is always tumbleweed of hair on the front porch and in the house. Then, you have the barn swallows that have a nest on the front porch, so there is a pile of bird poo on the ground under the nest and bird poo along the siding where they poo from the window and door frame. Lovely!!!
The inside of my house is a little like that hoarder show in some areas. My closet has clothes that are anywhere from size 8-12 and I don't know what to throw away because I don't know what size I am.
My craft area is so full of stuff that it looks like the making of a garage sale. The kids rooms look like a dungeon of dust bunnies and dirty clothes. Blah!!!
When you walk through the house you see missing boards and unfinished drywall. There are things with one coat of paint that you can see through and windows that have never had the paint cleaned off. There are windows with no frames, and door frames with no paint. The outside is just as bad.
My husband would probably ask why I bother blogging about how messy and unfinished things are around here. I think it's good to let others know that they aren't alone. We weren't all born with that perfection gene. We weren't all born with that need to have very few things. We weren't all born easy going. We weren't all born to collect stuff. We were ALL born with what God intended us to have. How boring life would be if we were all the same. How wonderful it is that my house looks different than your house. How cool it is that God gave each of us different gifts and talents. If your an open minded person, you will love my house because it tells the story of me, and I will love your house because it tells the story of you. You will love who I am because it is who I am, and I will love who you are because it is who YOU are. You will not like some things about me because I am human and imperfect and I will not like some things about you because you are human and imperfect...but if I let that get in the way of the good things about you, then I am not who God intended me to be.
I want a clean and perfect home. I can keep it clean for a while. I can keep it clean when the kids aren't home. I can do my best and try my hardest, but I wasn't born with the gene that makes my home look like my mother's or grandmothers home. I was born with the gene that makes my home livable. It might welcome you with a pile of dishes in the kitchen, but life is just too short to stress over dirty dishes and dust bunnies. The joy of having a pet love on you is worth having to deal with pet hair. The joy of having 4 boys is worth the nasty smell that comes from their room. The sweet things your hubby does for you is worth dealing with his mess. Getting to see your family enjoy your home is better than living in a home that is like a museum.
One day my home will be just me and Bruce..........Then it will be clean and we will be bored.
Here are some pictures of two of the baby deer on the property.
This mama deer is baby sitting another mothers baby along with her own. It's so cool how they do that.
They are so cute.
