Being a stay at home mom
It's cloudy and wet outside but still a really pretty day and a little cool.
I've already fed chickens, the cat and let the dogs out. I've walked the garden and pulled some weeds.
I've made my coffee and drank it.
I'm not sure what to do with the day.
Yesterday I rested from all the Easter ness.
I love my little family.
We had Taylor on skype for most of the day but I miss him.
It's funny carrying around a computer so he can see all the silliness and listen to all the conversations.
I look forward to when he's on leave and can visit again. We usually get that once a year because he's so far away.
This year our youngest graduates from High school.
Then, I am officially done with that stage of life. I have been a mom for almost 27 years.
I'm not sure life would have been all that great without those precious little adventure makers.
Gosh I adore them.
The garden is growing. The neighbors chickens did a number on my carrot/spinach bed. It's looks like it's been trampled. But they are funny and sweet and I can't be too mad at them.
Our chickens are growing. They are about 9-10 weeks old. They have changed colors and are so cool. Each one has a different personality. I pray they all stay healthy and safe in our care.
Bruce is building them a large chicken house so we can go in and interact with them.
I feel like doing something fun today instead of chores. I need to clean the kitchen and pay some bills. I should do laundry and clean. Some days it feels like that movie ground hog day. It's like living the same day over and over again. I am blessed with my life. I know this. I am very lucky to be a stay at home mom. It's not as easy as people think. You hear a lot of people tell you, "Oh, I wish I could stay home. We just can't afford it." When you stay at home, you simplify. You don't go shopping, or have your hair or nails done. You wear thrift store clothes or things on clearance wracks. You cook instead of going out to eat. You don't go on vacation every year and when you do vacation, it's a cheap drive to the coast. Your home is simple and maybe not in the pristine areas of town. But...you get to raise you children and you are here for everyone when they need you. You manage a home and do things like gardening to save money...and sanity. Your house needs paint, your appliances are mismatched hand me downs or old. You drive an old car and buy your furnishings at thrift stores. You become creative and self sufficient. You get very bored very often.
Sometimes you cry. Sometimes you cry a lot. Did I mention you get bored?
But..... You have fewer temptations to ruin a marriage and you get to raise your children and be here for your family. It's not for everyone. It was what my husband and I decided to do, and I'm so glad I did it this way. I've been judged for it, but it doesn't bother me. We all get to make our own choices based on what fits us.
I still have no idea what I'm going to do with my day.......
