Wood stoves and dolls

Happy Halloween!!!
It's beautiful outside. Makes you want to spend the day doing something outdoors.
Our neighborhood is doing a hayride this evening. I don't know but a few of my neighbors, so we'll probably skip it,but maybe we'll have a little fire pit going and hand out some candy when they come by. We've only lived in the house for about a year. The properties are large so your not that close to your neighbors. I LOVE that! Although it makes it hard to get to know people unless you go to the property owners association. :) We haven't been yet.
The boys have a game this evening where the band is going to do their version of "Thriller". Sounds like fun.

Alex has the sniffles. It got pretty cold last night. When the heater finally shut on there was a burning smell in the house and the fire alarm went off. Bruce got up and walked the house looking for a fire. I had started the woodstove earlier so he went outside and looked at the chimney to see if there was a fire out there. Our home is all wood...walls, ceiling, and floors. To top it off, it's 100 year old wood. Makes you a little nervous when a smoke detector goes off. I felt like a fool laying in bed thinking "it's really cold. I should go see if we need to get out of the house. But it's really cold". I didn't move, just curled up under them covers. I kept thinking about what I would need to do if there actually was a fire. Where are the pictures? What would I grab? Get the kids out first. It really makes you think about wether or not your prepared. Thanks to my Dad...all my windows open really well, and we have a lot of them. So we have some quick escape routes. But then you think about animals and things. I'm pretty sure the dogs would head out the nearest open door or window, but not the other animals. I need to stop by home depot today. I might just pick up some more smoke detectors.

My goal last week was to finish a rag doll and santa doll to post on my etsy page. I actually accomplished my goal. Yay!!! I finished the santa last night about 8 or so. I finished the doll the day before. They take, on average, three days to put together. Making the body, figuring out and cutting the quilt dress/coat, and then putting it together. I don't make patterns and I don't duplicate. I think it's cool to have an original, and I sign each one. Feel free to check my Etsy page if you wanna see what they look like.
My next project will be to work on some glasses with the charms. I LOVE those. I gave all mine away except a couple. I use my large one each day for ice tea or water. Just makes ya feel good to use something fancy sometimes. :)

HAVE A SAFE AND FUN HALLOWEEN!!!
