My messy garden

Image
The Swallows are building another nest on the porch.... and leaving a lovely mess on the ground. Our garden this year is full of larkspur. They are everywhere. I need to clear some paths and decide where I need to pull the larkspur up and where I want to let them grow. So far I have tomato plants growing, squash, a few cabbage (although they are a winter plant), carrots that haven't come up well so far, watermelon, and cucumber, and green beans that Justin planted. I have more seeds but I haven't decided where to plant them. My pond is green as pea soup with one lonely fish that hides all the time. The Lily plants are growing. No Lily flowers yet. I have 4 rose bushes that have trouble blooming due to something topping them. I have a peach tree and a citrus tree in the garden that haven't really caught on yet. The cedar fence that goes around the garden needs finishing and I would love to find some replacement rabbits that HAVE ears instead of my pathetic ear less ones. So....

Day one of my overhaul

In an effort to look and feel less worn out. I decided to put a bit of time towards maintenance, like you would a car. Although I can't change the battery or overhaul the engine like I would like, I can at least use decent fuel and maybe a thick coating of wax. :) I stopped by the store and picked out something to get rid of the gray. (It didn't work as well as usually due to the fact that I bought non permanent color instead of permanent). My fault for not reading the box fully and only going with the lovely picture on the front. So I'll have to hit that one again in about a week. Sigh... After "washing that gray right outa my hair" I dumped a blob of conditioner on my head, worked that in and rolled up the length of it on top my head and clipped it in place. I then scrubbed down my face with apricot scrub, rinsed that off and applied a green face mask. I looked like an oompa loompa. My husband wanted to take a picture and post it on facebook. I said no. He knows...

Why do I look so worn out?

I woke up this morning, hit the shower and started getting ready for church. In the last month or so my hair has started turning grey. As I was putting on my makeup and running through my vocal warm ups I noticed how worn out I look. I can see it in my face. I look as if I've aged 10 years. When I got to church the service was about "worry". I think it was exactly what I needed to hear. It was a GREAT message that you can hear online (once they get it posted) at http://www.firstprotestant.com/ under the contemporary service list for 3-27-11. I'm sure it will be up by the early part of this week. If I were to rattle off my worries you would probably throw something at me. I won't bother you with the details except to say the economy is hitting us very hard. Then add all the regular stuff and it's no wonder I'm a nut case. I need to take better care of myself. I'm not sure how to go about that when your doing the best that you can. When my foot is total...

saving money and recycling part 2

I really wish I was better at posting more often. Not that anyone is all that upset that I don't have a new post every day, just the fact that I enjoy it. Since I have to stay off my foot a bit due to a sprained ankle...what better time to post something. Last post was about saving money. I wanted to post a part 2 of what we do to save money, but I don't want it to be boring. So I'll try to make it shorter and more entertaining. :P I love to recycle and re-use, obviously. When I see my trash leave the house, I think of the impact it makes on the landfill. (a HUGE man made mountain) I feel I should do my part, it makes me feel better. So..... I wrote a list of all the things we do and wrote about several on the last post. The left over list is still very long. I didn't realize how much we do. I'm just gonna jot down the left over list. Composting kitchen scraps. There are lists online of the things that compost well. Make Soup- requires small amounts of meat (or no m...

Saving money and Recycling

I thought it would be interesting to post about what Bruce and I do here at the house to save money and recycle. Some of it might be a little overboard for some people, but I think it's pretty cool. I keep thinking that, in case the economy doesn't improve, we're all going to need to learn how to be more self sufficient. Things like growing your own food or shopping on a budget are not just options, they are becoming important. When we were living at the smaller property in town I recycled and tried planting a garden. I did a little composting but nothing all that elaborate. When we moved here we found we had more space to try new things. We compost anything that can be composted, we recycle anything that can be recycled and we are on our third attempt at a garden. Each year I learn more. I've made my own laundry soap until I had to get a new machine and it didn't work as well with the new machine. Although I might give it another try and use a half and half ...
